Muzaffarpur hospital blaze kills 3 patients, leaves 20 injured
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has unequivocally condemned the shooting incident that occurred during the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner on Saturday night. In a statement posted on social media, the Prime Minister expressed his profound relief that U.S. President Donald Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, and Vice President JD Vance remained unharmed following the security scare. Emphasizing that violence has no place in any democracy, PM Modi stressed that such acts must be condemned by all, reinforcing his solidarity with the American leadership during this volatile moment.
The incident unfolded at the Washington Hilton hotel, where approximately 2,600 attendees, including senior administration officials and journalists, had gathered for the prestigious annual event. According to law enforcement officials, the suspect—identified as 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen of Torrance, California—attempted to breach a security checkpoint near the main ballroom while armed with a shotgun, a handgun, and multiple knives. Secret Service agents intercepted the gunman, leading to an exchange of fire, after which the suspect was swiftly apprehended and taken into custody.
During the ensuing chaos, Secret Service agents immediately evacuated President Trump, the First Lady, and other high-ranking officials to secure locations within the hotel. While President Trump confirmed that one Secret Service agent was shot during the altercation, he noted that the officer was saved by a bulletproof vest and is expected to recover. President Trump later addressed the media, praising the "brave" actions of the Secret Service for preventing a potentially catastrophic outcome and described the gunman as a "sick person" acting as a "lone wolf."
