Baranagar turned terrifying when gunshots rang out near Northern Park area under Baranagar Municipality's Ward No 14, leaving locals stunned and one man nursing minor injuries. Bikash Majumdar, a resident of that area, had just stepped out of his home to throw garbage in the usual dump yard when someone suddenly fired at him. The bullet whizzed past his body misses but the spraying gunpowder into his eyes and face, causing burning pain and small wounds.
Shocked neighbours rushed him to a nearby hospital where doctors treated the powder burns and said he was lucky to be alive—the shot was clearly meant to kill. Panic spread fast in the narrow lanes around the park as people heard the loud cracks and saw Bikash clutching his face. Within minutes police from Baranagar station arrived, cordoned off the area, and began hunting for empty bullet shells and clues. No one could say who pulled the trigger or why Bikash was targeted.
Baranagar Police probing on whether this could be linked to old disputes or any rivalries that exploded into violence. Police are checking nearby CCTV cameras. For families living just steps away from the garbage heap where the firing took place this incident is a stark reminder that the area where they used to dump daily waste has now become a chilling reminder that danger can strike even at any time of a day.
