Panic struck the upscale Juhu locality in Mumbai in the early hours of Sunday, when unidentified gunmen opened fire outside the residence of renowned filmmaker Rohit Shetty. The incident occurred around 12:45 am at "Shetty Towers," a 10-storey residential building where the Singham director resides. According to police reports, approximately five rounds were fired at the building before the assailants fled the scene. Fortunately, while Shetty was inside his home at the time of the attack, no injuries or casualties were reported.
The Mumbai Police, along with the Crime Branch and a forensic ballistic team, rushed to the spot immediately after being alerted by the building’s security guards. Investigators have recovered several empty bullet shells from the pavement outside the residence, which have been sent for forensic analysis. DCP (Zone IX) Dikshit Gedam confirmed the incident and stated that a high-level probe is currently underway. While the motive remains unknown, the audacity of the attack has sent shockwaves through the Bollywood fraternity, echoing past threats against high-profile celebrities like Salman Khan.
Currently, several teams of the Mumbai Police are scanning CCTV footage from the Juhu area to identify the suspects and determine the route used for their escape. An FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act. In response to the threat, heavy police security has been stationed outside the filmmaker’s residence, and patrolling in the celebrity-heavy neighborhood has been intensified. Rohit Shetty and his representatives have not yet issued an official statement regarding the harrowing ordeal.
