Shootout near Bypass, 5-6 rounds fired on youth

A 23-year-old youth was injured in a firing incident at Tiljala Road under the Kolkata Police’s Beniapukur division around midnight on February 24. The victim, identified as Md Niyaz alias Raja, was allegedly shot at by a miscreant in front of his residence at 2C, Tiljala Road. He was immediately taken to SSKM Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment. Doctors have reportedly found a bullet injury on his leg.

Police said two rounds were fired during the incident. The officer-in-charge of Beniapukur Police Station confirmed that the victim’s statement is being recorded as part of the investigation. Preliminary information suggests that tension had been brewing in the locality earlier in the evening following a dispute among local youths.

According to initial findings, the accused has been identified and a search operation has been launched to apprehend him. Investigators are examining whether the shooting was linked to the earlier altercation in the area. The motive behind the attack is yet to be officially confirmed.

Security has been tightened in the Tiljala area following the incident to prevent further disturbance. Police said efforts are underway to track down the accused at the earliest and restore normalcy in the locality.
