Court sends Councilor Mahesh Sharma to 6-day police custody in extortion case
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned Kalyan Shukla for questioning in connection with the alleged land-grab and financial irregularities case involving Biswajit Poddar alias “Sona Pappu”. Shukla appeared before the ED office on Thursday after investigators identified leads during the ongoing probe. The agency is examining his alleged links with individuals already under investigation in the case.
According to ED sources, the summons was issued after investigators recovered information during searches conducted at Shukla’s apartment in Urbana, Kolkata. The agency also reportedly found references to Shukla in chat records recovered from the mobile phone of arrested businessman Joy S Kamdar. Investigators are expected to question him regarding information obtained during searches and his alleged association with persons linked to the investigation.
The ED is also examining documents and data stored on three mobile phones seized during the probe. Officials are seeking clarification regarding communications, records and other material recovered from the devices. The questioning forms part of the agency’s broader effort to trace relationships and transactions connected to the alleged network under investigation.
The agency has alleged that the property-grab network operated through a system involving promoters, police officials and other associates. Biswajit Poddar was arrested earlier this week after appearing before the ED for questioning. The agency had previously arrested Joy S Kamdar and Shantanu Sinha Biswas. Investigators are also scrutinising financial transactions linked to entities and individuals named in the case, including deposits and property-related dealings that form part of the ongoing investigation.
