Shubman Gill shines as India thrashes New Zealand to win T20I series 2-1

India remained unbeaten in 2023 after defeating New Zealand in the three-match series decider. Led by Shubman Gill's unbeaten 126, India were able to beat Mitchell Santner and co. with a massive lead of 168 runs - India's biggest lead against the Kiwis.

Playing at his home turf of the Indian Premier League, Gill produced an absolute master class to save India from another mediocre start. After a nightmare opener by Ishana Kishana, Gill held the innings with Rahul Tripathi and others to guide the team to their highest total against New Zealand - 234.

The game looked over at half time as it was quite unlikely that Mitchell Santner's men were going to chase down such a big target. After spin dominated the first two games, the Indian pacers stole the show running through New Zealand's batting line-up in overs to reduce them to 21/5 in 4.3 overs.

The wickets continued to fall as a hapless New Zealand looked beaten 10 overs into the chase. The visitors were eventually bowled out for just 66 runs in 12.1 overs as the pacers swept the T20 World Cup 2021 finalists. Hardik Pandya was the pick of the bowlers, scalping four wickets in 16 runs.
