"Kolkata to get Water Metro connectivity," says Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari
A Sub-Inspector from the Junglemahal Battalion, identified as Jaydeep Chatterjee, shot his parents and then attempted to take his own life. The harrowing event occurred at approximately 5:00 AM on Thursday. All three individuals—the Sub-Inspector and his parents—have been rushed to the Jhargram Medical College and Hospital, where they remain in critical condition. The incident is currently under investigation, and a suicide note has reportedly been recovered from the scene.
According to preliminary reports, Jaydeep Chatterjee had just returned home from his night duty. Using his service revolver, he first shot his father, Debabrata Chatterjee, and mother, Shampa Chatterjee, inside their home. Following the attack on his parents, he then turned the gun on himself, firing a bullet at his neck in an attempt to commit suicide. The gruesome scene was discovered by a neighbor and the landlord, who rushed to the house after hearing the gunshots.
Upon entering the room, the neighbors were confronted with the terrifying sight of all three family members lying in a pool of blood. They immediately alerted the police, who arrived at the scene shortly after. The police force, acting quickly, rescued the critically injured individuals and transported them to the hospital for immediate medical attention. The community is still reeling from the shock of the incident, which has raised serious questions about the mental health of police personnel.
Jaydeep Chatterjee, a native of Bamunpara village in Asansol, was in charge of the Junglemahal Battalion in the Jhargram district. He was a Sub-Inspector responsible for the area, which makes the incident even more disturbing to his colleagues and the public. The police have launched a full-fledged investigation to ascertain the exact sequence of events and the motive behind the attack.
A key piece of evidence recovered by the police is a suicide note found inside the house. While the contents of the note have not been officially disclosed, initial findings from the investigation suggest that the Sub-Inspector was suffering from severe mental distress, possibly related to his parents. This mental anguish is believed to be the primary reason that drove him to such a desperate act. The police are now trying to determine the specific cause of the family conflict or mental stress.
