Signal glitch in Kolkata metro causes delay in services, commuters suffer

Kolkata Metro experienced a major disruption on Monday morning, affecting thousands of passengers during busy office hours. The up-and-down metro lines were disrupted due to a signal glitch between Dum Dum and Noapara stations. This caused severe delays and left passengers stranded on the trains for hours. Despite engineers being dispatched to fix the issue, the situation did not return to normal for more than two hours, causing immense inconvenience for commuters.

The disruption began around 8:45 AM when Dum Dum and Dakshineswar metro services were suddenly halted. Metro trains were stuck in the middle of the stations, with the signal failure preventing trains from moving as scheduled. The issue was the same for the trains coming from Kabi Subhash station, and the situation quickly escalated, with metro services being stopped at multiple stations along the way.

The absence of any special announcements at the stations left passengers in the dark about the cause of the disruption. As trains remained stalled, the crowds at the stations grew, and commuters, especially office-goers, were left frustrated as they faced significant delays. Passengers who had left home on time to reach their offices were now stuck in the metro, unsure when the situation would return to normal.

Metro sources later confirmed that the signal issue between Dum Dum and Noapara was the root cause of the delay. The trains traveling in the down direction could not enter Dum Dum properly, and those traveling in the up direction could not enter Noapara due to the faulty signal. The engineers immediately started working on the issue, but even by 10:30 AM, metro services had not resumed normal operations.

As the situation dragged on, passengers grew more frustrated, particularly those who depended on the metro to get to work on time. The disruption came at a time when office-goers were traveling during peak hours, exacerbating the difficulties of daily commuters. By 10:45 AM, metro services had still not returned to normal, and commuters continued to face severe delays in their journeys.
