Siliguri MLA demands night train to Kolkata

Siliguri MLA Shankar Ghosh has made a strong plea to the Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, urging the initiation of a night train service between Siliguri and Kolkata. Ghosh highlighted the absence of a night train from Siliguri, a key city in North Bengal, to the West Bengal capital. The last train, Padatik Express, departs from New Jalpaiguri (NGP) station at 8:40 pm, leaving a gap for travelers who wish to reach Kolkata after 10 pm.

For many residents and visitors of Siliguri, particularly those who need to attend late-night events or work commitments in Kolkata, the current options are limited to buses or flights, neither of which serve as a viable alternative to direct train service. Ghosh emphasized the need for an additional night train to cater to this demand and facilitate smoother connectivity between the two cities.

I have requested the Honorable Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav to consider the possibility of starting a night train from Siliguri to Kolkata. This would greatly benefit the people of North Bengal, ensuring they have better transportation options,” said Ghosh. He also appealed to local MPs to lend their support in raising this issue with the Railway Ministry.
