Silver jumps nearly Rs 20,000 in two days, gold scales fresh lifetime peak

Gold and silver prices scaled fresh all-time highs for the second consecutive day on January 13, with both metals witnessing sharp gains. According to industry rates, silver surged by Rs 6,566 to Rs 2,62,742 per kilogram, extending its two-day rise to nearly Rs 20,000. Gold also edged higher, with 10 grams of 24-carat gold rising to a lifetime high of Rs 1,40,482.

The strong rally comes amid sustained global demand and macroeconomic factors supporting precious metals. Over the past year, gold prices have jumped by nearly 75%, while silver has recorded a massive 167% increase, reflecting heightened investor interest and strong industrial consumption. Analysts note that both metals are increasingly seen as safe assets during periods of global uncertainty.

Market experts attribute the gold rally to a weakening US dollar, geopolitical tensions, and aggressive gold buying by global central banks. Silver prices, meanwhile, are being driven by robust industrial demand from sectors such as solar energy, electronics and electric vehicles, along with supply concerns and advance stockpiling by manufacturers.

Looking ahead, bullion market observers expect the upward trend to continue. Analysts project silver prices could approach Rs 2.75 lakh per kilogram this year, while gold may cross Rs 1.50 lakh per 10 grams if current demand momentum sustains.
