SIT finds 60 property documents; BJP demands ED probe against Falta's 'Pushpa' Jahangir Khan

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the West Bengal Police has uncovered a massive network of illegal assets belonging to the arrested Trinamool Congress leader Jahangir Khan and his wife, Regina alias Sarika Bibi. Investigators have recovered at least 60 property documents, which include deeds for multiple flats, houses, and land across Falta in South 24 Parganas. The Diamond Harbour Police District is currently investigating whether these immovable assets were purchased legally, the specific sources of the funds used, or if the properties were forcefully acquired from local residents through threats and intimidation.

Jahangir Khan, who frequently referred to himself as 'Pushpa' after a popular film character, was the party's chosen candidate for the Falta seat in the 2026 assembly elections before unexpectedly pulling out of the race just two days prior to the voting. He was subsequently arrested near the Nepal border on multiple charges, including systemic extortion, while his wife was arrested for allegedly inciting a riot at a local police station to secure his release. Currently, Khan remains in judicial jail custody, while his wife has been remanded to police custody as the financial and property verification process begins.

Meanwhile, BJP leader Bidhan Parui has escalated the political pressure by filing a formal written complaint with the Falta Police Station, the District Superintendent of Police, and the Enforcement Directorate (ED), demanding a central agency probe into Khan's financial transactions. The complainant stated that Khan's personal wealth grew exponentially alongside his political rise, transitioning from a Gram Panchayat head in 2013 to the construction manager of the Zilla Parishad. The police have started verifying the valuation, previous ownership, and registration details of the seized deeds to ascertain the complete scale of the corruption case.
