At least six people were injured in a clash between two groups over a change in the route of a Muharram procession in Dhanbad, Jharkhand, on Wednesday night. The incident took place in the Pandarpala locality of Wasseypur. According to Dhanbad Senior Superintendent of Police H P Janardhanan, the altercation was triggered by the procession route being altered due to water-logging. Police swiftly intervened to bring the situation under control and imposed prohibitory orders under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) to maintain law and order.
Security has been increased in the area to prevent further incidents. "The clash was triggered by the change in the Muharram procession route," SSP Janardhanan said. He added that further investigation is underway to understand the full context of the incident. The police are working to ensure that peace is restored and no additional violence occurs in the locality.
