Muzaffarpur hospital blaze kills 3 patients, leaves 20 injured
A six-month-old girl died after falling into stagnant rainwater inside her house in Ward 13 of North Dumdum Municipality. The incident occurred during ongoing heavy rainfall that has led to waterlogging in several parts of the region. According to available information, the baby was sleeping on a cot when she slipped and fell into water that had entered the ground-floor room. By the time her family noticed, she had drowned.
Continuous rainfall over the past few days has caused severe waterlogging not only on roads but also inside residential homes, especially in low-lying areas. In Ward 13, several houses have reported rainwater accumulation reaching several inches indoors. Local residents have alleged that despite multiple complaints, no adequate drainage arrangements have been made, leading to dangerous living conditions.
Following the child’s death, there has been visible anger in the locality. Residents have demanded immediate action from municipal authorities to install proper drainage infrastructure to prevent further accidents. The civic administration has not yet issued any statement regarding the incident or future plans for water evacuation in the affected wards.
