A sixth-grade student died after being hit by a sand-loaded truck on Thursday in the Daulatpur Phoolbagan area of Ward 30, Maheshtala Municipality, South 24 Parganas district. According to local residents, the driver and helper of the truck were allegedly intoxicated at the time of the accident. The boy was riding his bicycle when the truck collided with him, and its wheel passed over his head, resulting in his death on the spot.
Following the incident, a large crowd chased and seized the truck, damaging it. When police from Maheshtala station arrived at the scene, the crowd surrounded them and protested. Residents stated that heavy trucks have been operating carelessly on this road for a long time and that repeated requests for speed bumps were ignored. Due to the unrest, the Rapid Action Force was called to the location.
Maheshtala police arrested the truck driver and his helper shortly after the accident. An investigation into the incident is underway. The area remains tense following the fatal collision, and authorities continue efforts to manage the situation.
