A protest by SLST (School Level Selection Test) teachers took place today at Maidan, Kolkata, organized by the "Yogya Adhikar Mancha" (Platform for Qualified Rights). The protestors gathered at the No. 1 and No. 2 gates of Maidan Metro to demand intervention from the Chief Minister regarding their pending dues. The protestors, comprising teachers who have been awaiting payment for over a month, voiced their discontent due to the state government’s failure to address their concerns despite multiple attempts to seek a resolution.
The protest occurred without prior police approval, resulting in a confrontation with the authorities. Several protestors were detained by the police and transported in a prison van to Lalbazar. During the demonstration, protestors blocked major roads near the Maidan Metro gates, leading to significant traffic congestion. Kolkata Police confirmed the disruption, stating that the roadblock caused heavy delays in the surrounding area.
For more than a month, the protesting teachers have been camping under the open sky, demanding the release of their rightful dues. According to the protestors, their grievances have not been addressed by the state government, despite their continued efforts to engage with officials. As of now, there has been no official statement from the government regarding the protest or the teachers' demands.
