Tension spread in parts of Murshidabad district after a large quantity of socket bombs was discovered in the Ramakrishnapur area under Biharia Gram Panchayat on Saturday morning.
According to local sources, some farmers who had gone to work near a pond in the Ramakrishnapur fields noticed a suspicious nylon bag lying on the ground. When they checked the bag, they reportedly found several explosive-like objects inside and immediately alerted the police.
Officers from Hariharpara Police Station rushed to the spot after receiving the information and cordoned off the area to prevent any untoward incident. Police sources later confirmed that the bag contained multiple powerful socket bombs.
The explosives were placed under tight security while bomb disposal procedures were initiated. The recovery has raised concerns about law and order in the area, especially with the upcoming assembly elections drawing closer in Murshidabad district of West Bengal. Police have started an investigation to determine who left the explosives in the field and for what purpose. Authorities are also questioning locals and examining the surrounding area for further clues.
