Son, 5 others held for illegal organ harvesting from deceased mother in Nadia

A shocking incident has emerged from Nadia district, where six members of a family, including a government schoolteacher son, have been arrested for allegedly illegally removing organs from their deceased mother. The incident occurred in the Kalirhat Senpur area under Krishnanagar Kotwali police station, triggering widespread tension and outrage among local residents.

According to available information, 65-year-old Rabia Bibi had been suffering from prolonged illness and died on Monday. Neighbours alleged that soon after her death, family members prevented others from approaching the body. During this time, a private medical team reportedly arrived at the house and stayed inside a room for nearly two hours.

Suspicion grew after the medical team left and villagers noticed that both eyes of the deceased were missing, along with incision marks on several parts of her body. Locals suspected that organs had been removed under the guise of donation. When villagers asked the family to produce consent papers or legal documents, the relatives allegedly failed to do so, prompting them to alert the police.

Police from Krishnanagar Kotwali reached the spot, seized the body, and sent it for post-mortem examination. Following preliminary inquiry, the deceased woman’s three sons, two daughters, and one daughter-in-law were detained and later arrested on charges related to illegal organ removal.

The arrested teacher son has denied all allegations, claiming that the organs were donated as per his mother’s last wish and that relevant documents exist. Police, however, remain unconvinced and are searching for the private medical team involved. Officials said the post-mortem report will determine which organs were removed and whether an organised organ trafficking network was involved.
