A 74-year-old man, Lalit Kumar Adhikari, was allegedly killed by his 52-year-old son, Asit Adhikari, at their residence on 24 Shishir Kumar Dey Road in Baranagar. The incident occurred late on Wednesday night. Asit, an auto-rickshaw driver by profession, reportedly smothered his father with a pillow after a dispute over money.
According to the family's daughter, Asit was addicted to intoxicants and frequently demanded money from his father. She stated that on Wednesday night, when Lalit refused to give him money, Asit allegedly became violent and killed him. It was also mentioned that Asit mostly stayed at his in-laws’ place and visited the house occasionally.
After the incident, Asit went to Baranagar police station and surrendered. Police sealed the crime scene and initiated an investigation. The body has been sent for post-mortem, and statements are being recorded from family members and locals as part of the inquiry.
