The skeleton and skull of Mahasin Haldar, a resident of Hariharpur Purkaitpara in South 24 Parganas, were recovered from a bushy area near Shibpur Primary School under Usti police station limits. He had been missing for the past three months. Following the recovery, police arrested Haldar’s wife, Tanuja Bibi, and her alleged lover, Habibullah Khan.
According to police, Tanuja had filed a missing complaint at Usti police station shortly after Mahasin went missing. During the investigation, officers grew suspicious of her version of events. Upon further questioning, Tanuja reportedly confessed to murdering her husband with the help of Habibullah Khan, who worked at Haldar’s shop.
Police stated that after the murder, the body was dumped in a deserted area near the school. The skeletal remains were located during a follow-up operation based on information received during interrogation. Both accused have been arrested, and the remains have been sent for forensic examination. Further investigation is underway.
