South Kolkata schoolgirl allegedly gang-raped at birthday party; Three arrested after 5 months

A disturbing incident has come to light in South Kolkata, where a schoolgirl was allegedly gang-raped by three college students during a birthday party last November. The victim, a minor, was invited to the party at a luxurious guest house in central Kolkata, where she was reportedly given alcohol. After becoming intoxicated, she was allegedly sexually assaulted by three of her friends, all college students. The victim managed to return home, but the trauma prevented her from sharing the incident with anyone.

The victim's mental health began to decline, raising concerns from her father, who had recently returned from abroad. Upon noticing his daughter’s changed behavior, the father questioned her about any potential distress. After much emotional turmoil, the victim eventually revealed the details of the assault to her father. On the basis of her statement, a formal complaint was filed at Rabindra Sarovar police station on Monday night.

Following the filing of the complaint, the police quickly arrested all three accused. The trio were detained on the same night, and the authorities have assured that they will take strict legal action against the perpetrators. The accused are set to be presented before the Alipore POCSO court. The police have called for further vigilance regarding safety measures for minors in social settings.
