In a significant development ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2024, the Samajwadi Party (SP) and Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) have formalized an alliance. SP National President Akhilesh Yadav announced the agreement through a tweet, revealing that the party will be conceding 7 Lok Sabha seats in Western Uttar Pradesh to RLD. The agreement was solidified after a meeting between Akhilesh Yadav and RLD President Jayant Chaudhary, encompassing constituencies such as Baghpat, Mathura, Muzaffarnagar, Bijnor, Meerut, Amroha, and Kairana.
The alliance aims for a united front, as emphasized by Akhilesh Yadav's tweet offering congratulations to all supporters. Meanwhile, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati declared the party's independent stance for the Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh. Mayawati stated that BSP will contest the elections without any alliances and will not extend free support as done previously. Addressing recent political shifts, Mayawati cautioned against trusting the changing colors of political alliances and asserted that BSP will independently participate in the electoral process.
