Bengal Govt elevates IPS Ajay Mukund Ranade to DGP (Law and Order)
A festive morning turned into a nightmare in Salt Lake on Friday as a speeding four-wheeler went on a reckless rampage, leaving at least two people injured, while a pedestrian was crushed to death. The incident occurred around 9:45 am near the Hudco crossing on the morning of Saraswati Puja. The vehicle, which was reportedly heading from Kankurgachhi towards Ultodanga and potentially the airport, lost control at high speed, turning the busy road into a scene of chaos and blood.
The primary victim, a pedestrian crossing the road, was crushed by the vehicle and left in a critical state. Eyewitnesses stated that the car did not stop after the initial impact, instead continuing its path of destruction by crashing into a tree before hitting a motorcycle. The biker was thrown onto the road upon impact. The rampage finally ended after the car hit a young man on a scooty who was parked by the roadside while talking on his phone.
Local residents rushed to the aid of the victims and alerted the Maniktala police, who arrived promptly at the scene. All the injured individuals were rescued and shifted to a nearby hospital. The front windshield of the offending vehicle was completely shattered, and the car sustained heavy damage before coming to a halt.
