A high-speed collision in Nadia’s Chapra on Holi led to the deaths of five people, including a child, and left eight others injured. The accident occurred near Charatala petrol pump on the Krishnanagar-Karimpur state highway when a four-wheeler lost control and crashed into a Toto (electric rickshaw). The impact severely damaged the Toto, throwing passengers onto the road, while some were trapped under the vehicle.
According to police, a group from Nakashipara had come to Chapra for Eid shopping. They were returning home in the Toto when the speeding car struck them head-on. Hearing the crash, locals rushed to the scene and began rescue efforts. The injured were taken to Chapra Rural Hospital and later shifted to Shaktinagar District Hospital. Doctors initially declared three people dead, while two more succumbed to their injuries during treatment. Officials confirmed that the injured remain critical, and further casualties are possible.
A large police team from Chapra police station reached the site and seized the vehicle. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident. The incident has led to heavy distress in the area, with families of the deceased in mourning.
