Bengal Govt elevates IPS Ajay Mukund Ranade to DGP (Law and Order)
A tragic accident unfolded on Kolkata's Red Road near Victoria Memorial at 7 AM, when a speeding luxury car, identified as a Ferrari, lost control and overturned after hitting multiple lampposts. The car was traveling from the SSKM Hospital direction towards Victoria and slammed into several lampposts in front of the Race Course area, causing severe damage and leading to injuries for four individuals. One of the person present in the ill-fated supercar has been identified as Saini Toyota's owner Amrik Singh Saini.
The collision injured the two occupants of the car—identified as a father and his son—and also tragically struck two sanitation workers who were performing their duties on Red Road at the time. After hitting the lampposts one after another, the car continued for approximately 700-800 meters before finally overturning. The luxury vehicle was severely mangled due to the sheer force of the accident.
All four injured individuals—the two occupants of the car and the two sanitation workers—have been admitted to the SSKM Hospital for treatment. Police from Hastings Police Station immediately arrived at the scene for rescue operations. Authorities are now investigating various questions, including eyewitness claims that the car was speeding. The police are also examining whether the driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and the cause of the vehicle's abnormal speed on a morning street. The driver and occupants will be questioned once their health stabilizes.
