A major road accident occurred at Kestopur signal early Saturday morning when a speeding pickup van lost control and rammed into several bikes waiting at the signal. The impact was so severe that one bike got stuck under the van, while several riders were thrown onto the road.
Five people, including a female traffic ASI, were injured in the crash and rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Eyewitnesses said that all the two-wheelers were waiting at the red signal when the van suddenly came from behind and struck them one after another, creating panic at the spot.
Following the accident, chaos broke out in the area. Police from Baguiati station quickly arrived, helped take the injured to the hospital, and seized the pickup van. The driver was taken into custody for questioning.
Officials said an investigation is underway to determine whether the accident was caused by drunken driving, negligence, or a technical fault in the vehicle. The incident has left residents of Kestopur shaken, with heightened fear on the busy stretch.
