The West Bengal School Service Commission (SSC) has published a definitive list of 3,512 ineligible education workers, non-teaching staff, whose appointments are now confirmed to be tainted by fraud. This significant disclosure, made public on Monday night alongside the opening of a new examination application window, shifts the public and legal spotlight from teaching staff to employees holding Group C and Group D positions in state-aided schools.
The Supreme Court had previously directed the Commission to release the names of all those found to have secured their jobs through illegal means in the 2016 recruitment process. The massive list of 3,512 names confirms the scale of the irregularities that plagued the recruitment process.
The SSC documents reveal that a colossal 2,591 individuals obtained their positions through blatant OMR sheet manipulation and without valid recommendation letters. A further 921 individuals were identified as having illegally jumped ranks or secured appointments from outside the approved recruitment panel, highlighting a dual layer of corruption that compromised merit-based hiring.
