St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata (SXUK) has announced the introduction of its Master of Laws (LL.M.) program, which will begin in the 2025-26 academic session. This significant development was shared by Vice-Chancellor Rev. Dr. John Felix Raj during the university’s sixth convocation ceremony held on Saturday. The new program adds to the university’s growing portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate courses. With the launch of the LL.M. program, SXUK is further establishing itself as a prominent institution in legal education.
The convocation ceremony also saw the address of Justice I. P. Mukerji, Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court. In his speech, Justice Mukerji urged the graduates to dedicate themselves to the ideal of justice as they move forward in their careers. This address emphasized the importance of law and justice in the professional lives of the graduating students.
In addition to the announcement of the new LL.M. program, SXUK is also focused on expanding its academic and infrastructural offerings. The university is preparing to launch a second academic building, which will feature state-of-the-art infrastructure. This new facility is expected to provide an enhanced learning environment for the law students, and the Xavier Law School (XLS) will relocate to this building once completed. The development of this new academic building is aligned with SXUK's ambitious Vision 2030 goal, which includes enrolling 10,000 students.
SXUK’s growth is not limited to new programs and infrastructure. In 2024, the university introduced an AI-powered Learning Management System (LMS), marking a major leap in the use of education technology. This LMS, inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor, is designed to transform the teaching-learning process and support interactive multimedia content creation. The system is part of the university's broader vision of adapting to modern educational trends while ensuring effective learning for its students.
