After Calcutta University, this time St. Xavier's University awarded an honorary D-Litt to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. She was awarded an honorary D. Litt for her outstanding contribution to higher education.
Along with this, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also became a member of St. Xavier's University Alumni Association. Governor CV Anand Bose conferred the honorary degree of D-Litt on the Chief Minister. On the occasion, Mamata Banerjee praised the University of St. Xavier and said her fight against poverty, injustice, inequality and protection of the constitution will continue.
Father Felix Raj, Vice-Chancellor of St. Xavier's, announced the award of honorary D-Litt to CM Mamata Banerjee. He further added: "It is recognition for her contribution to the St Xavier's University. She contributed to many universities in West Bengal. Chief Minister has contributed a lot in the field of higher education."
St. Xavier's University honored the Chief Minister with an honorary degree for her outstanding contribution to higher education. On receiving the D-Litt honour, the chief minister said, “I want to remain a common man. I want to work for the weaker section of society. It is necessary to maintain unity and equality in the country. The Constitution needs to be saved."
A total of 770 students were awarded certificates in this convocation of the St Xavier's University. Officials of St. Xavier's wrote a letter to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee regarding the award of D-Litt. Only then did the Chief Minister agree to accept the honour. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also inaugurated the newly constructed administrative block of the St Xavier's University.
