A BJP programme in Gosaba was briefly disrupted on Sunday after a portion of the stage collapsed while former state BJP president Dilip Ghosh was present on it. The incident occurred during a workers’ meeting where Dilip Ghosh was addressing party members.
According to eyewitnesses, the collapse happened suddenly when Dilip Ghosh was standing on the stage. He reportedly lost balance as part of the structure gave way, but nearby party workers acted quickly and held him, preventing a serious fall. The incident triggered panic among those present at the venue. Despite the scare, Dilip Ghosh did not sustain any major injuries and chose to continue with the programme. He moved to another part of the stage and went on to address the gathering, drawing appreciation from party workers for carrying on after the incident.
Those responsible for setting up the stage later inspected the structure and said the collapse occurred due to excessive pressure. They claimed too many people had climbed onto that section of the stage, causing it to give way.
