During a Mata Jagran event in Delhi's Kalkaji Temple on Saturday night, tragedy struck as the stage collapsed around midnight. The event, featuring bhajans by singer B Praak, drew a crowd of over 1500 people, including children, women, and the elderly. The surge of people onto the stage led to its collapse, resulting in one woman's unfortunate death and 17 others sustaining injuries. A stampede-like situation ensued after the incident, causing chaos at the venue. The stage, constructed with wood and iron, left some of the injured with fractures, and the Delhi Police have registered a case against the private organizers who did not obtain permission for the event.
The Mata Jagran was organized by a private entity, and B Praak, who was performing at the event, expressed his sorrow over the incident through a video released on Instagram. He emphasized the need for careful management in such gatherings, particularly considering the presence of children and the elderly. Praak stressed the importance of prioritizing safety and acknowledged witnessing such an incident for the first time. The Delhi Police's investigation includes examining the construction materials and organizers' responsibility, highlighting the necessity of proper permissions and safety measures for such public events.
