The long-stalled work of Kolkata Metro’s Orange Line, connecting Kavi Subhash to the Airport, is finally set to move forward. The construction at Chingrighata, where progress had been stuck for months, will resume from mid-November following a crucial directive from the Kolkata High Court.
A nearly five-hour meeting at Metro Bhavan brought all parties to a consensus on how to proceed with the pending work. It was decided that traffic blocks would be imposed only on weekends to minimize disruption. RVNL will carry out construction activities on November 14, 15, 16 and again on November 21, 22, 23.
Most of the New Garia–Airport Metro project has already been completed, leaving only a 366-meter stretch at Chingrighata pending. Authorities are hopeful that with this breakthrough, the long-awaited line will move closer to full operational readiness.
The decision marks a significant relief for commuters and project planners alike, as the Orange Line is considered a critical metro corridor for Kolkata.
