In a crackdown on illegal arms trafficking, the State Police Special Task Force (STF) has arrested two individuals and recovered sophisticated firearms from the Gangaghat area of Manikchak. The arrests were made ahead of the Panchayat elections, which are set to take place in the state soon.
Acting on a tip-off from a secret source, the STF conducted a raid in the Ganga Ghat area of Manikchak and arrested Mohammad Israf, a resident of Noorpur, and Mir Sejbulke, a resident of Bahaal. The duo was found to be in possession of a state-of-the-art firearm, two magazines, and 10 rounds of cartridges.
According to sources within the STF, the firearms were smuggled into the state from Jharkhand, and the arrested individuals were involved in their sale.
The police suspect that there may be more individuals involved in the illegal arms trade and have launched an investigation.
