On the evening of June 26, 2025, a team from the Special Task Force (STF) of West Bengal conducted a raid near Netaji Setu under Farakka Police Station in Murshidabad district. Acting on specific intelligence, officers intercepted a Bihar-registered goods vehicle and detained four individuals accused of smuggling arms into West Bengal from Bihar. The arrested were identified as Mukesh Mishra (45) and Shyamjeet Kumar Thakur (45), both residents of Kahalgaon in Bhagalpur district, Bihar, and Naimuddin Sk. (23) and Sanaul Sk. (22), both from Kaliachak in Malda district, West Bengal.
From their possession, STF personnel seized a total of nine illegal one-shotter-type firearms (pipe guns), 138 rounds of 8 mm ammunition, and 20 rounds of 7 mm ammunition. The firearms and cartridges were found concealed within the intercepted vehicle. Preliminary investigation revealed that the consignment was being transported across state borders, indicating a coordinated effort involving individuals from both Bihar and West Bengal.
A case has been registered at the STF West Bengal Headquarters Police Station under the relevant sections of the Arms Act. All four accused were taken into custody and are scheduled to be produced before the court of the Learned Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM), Bidhannagar, for police remand. The seized arms and vehicle have been sent for forensic examination and further investigation is underway to trace the origin and intended recipients of the weapons.
