Strange story of Bengal violence, white saree-agarbatti-tulsi at door, a sign of intimidation?

In the run-up to the West Bengal Panchayat elections in Nadia, a strange incident involving alleged intimidation tactics targeting a BJP candidate.

The candidate, Chanchal Chakraborty, claims that a white saree, basil leaves, incense sticks, and a copy of the Geeta were found placed in front of their house's gate in the Phulia Basti area of Shantipur block, interpreting threat, said "The Trinamool wants to say that I can be killed."

Chakraborty expressed shock and lodged a complaint, alleging that since entering the election fray, the Trinamool Congress party has obstructed their campaign efforts.  The BJP candidate believes that these tactics will not deter them. The police have been informed about the incident, and an investigation is expected to take place. While the BJP candidate's family members were understandably concerned by the incident, local Trinamool leader Uppal Basak distanced his party from the occurrence, claiming that the BJP leader had instigated violence during their visit to Phulia.

Uppal Basak emphasized that the Trinamool Congress party does not resort to violence to secure votes and expressed belief in the power of peaceful elections. However, incidents similar to this have been reported in several districts, with independent candidates also discovering plain sarees, incense sticks, and sweets placed outside their residences.

The BJP candidate's mother, Meera Chakraborty, spoke about the fear and distress caused by such acts of intimidation. She expressed her broken heart upon witnessing these events and believed that her daughter was being targeted due to her affiliation with the BJP.

On the other hand, Trinamool candidate Utpal Basak refuted any involvement of his party in the incident, stating that their campaign focuses on issues and does not engage in disruptive activities. He further commented that the BJP would not receive a single vote in the area.

The local police responded promptly to the complaint made by the BJP candidate, visiting the scene and confiscating the items found in front of their house. Investigations will be carried out to determine the culprits responsible for the act of intimidation.
