Strikes are ‘history’ in Bengal, now an investment hub: Mayor Firhad Hakim

Mayor Firhad Hakim stated that under Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s leadership, strikes and shutdowns in Bengal have become history, leading to increased industrial investments. Speaking at an event, he said that the state has seen a shift toward economic growth, with businesses showing interest in setting up operations. He referred to the Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS), where multiple investment commitments were made across sectors, including manufacturing, infrastructure, IT, and logistics. He emphasized that Bengal has implemented policies to ensure stability and attract industries.

Hakim addressed concerns regarding the state's business environment, saying that past disruptions have been replaced with policies focused on economic expansion. He stated that despite criticisms, the government has worked toward industrial development and ease of doing business. The state has undertaken infrastructure projects, including industrial corridors, improved road connectivity, and simplified investment procedures. He said that various national and international companies have shown interest in Bengal, with discussions ongoing regarding specific projects.

The investments at BGBS include proposals in key industries, with commitments toward employment generation and sectoral development. Officials have reported discussions with corporate groups regarding large-scale projects in energy, manufacturing, and urban infrastructure.
