Students raising 'Modi, Modi' slogans should be slapped: Karnataka minister

Karnataka Minister of Kannada and Culture, Shivaraj Tangadagi, stirred controversy with his remarks targeting youths and students chanting "Modi, Modi" slogans. Addressing a Congress workers' meeting in Karatagi, Koppal district, Tangadagi criticized the BJP-led government at the Centre for failing to fulfill its promise of creating two crore jobs annually. He stated, "If any students or youths still say 'Modi, Modi' (slogans), they should be slapped," emphasizing his discontent with the BJP's governance. Tangadagi further accused the BJP of incompetence, asserting, "They had promised to give two crore jobs. Did they give jobs to anyone? When asked for jobs they say -- sell 'pakoras'. They should be ashamed."

In response, senior BJP leader C T Ravi condemned Tangadagi's comments, attributing them to the Congress's anticipation of a significant loss in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The BJP has lodged a complaint with the Election Commission, urging strict action against Tangadagi for violating the Model Code of Conduct. The party asserted that Tangadagi's remarks could create fear among young voters, potentially discouraging their participation in the electoral process. BJP seeks Tangadagi's exclusion from election activities in favor of the Congress.
