The Enforcement Directorate has intensified its investigation into recruitment-related corruption cases in West Bengal, with fresh developments emerging on Saturday involving Sujit Bose. The outgoing Fire Minister, who was summoned in connection with the municipal recruitment scam, did not appear before the agency as he is currently hospitalised. In his absence, his son Samudra Bose visited the ED office with relevant documents linked to the case.
According to officials, Sujit Bose had been summoned multiple times as part of the ongoing probe. With the minister admitted to hospital for the past two days, Samudra Bose’s appearance at the ED office is being seen as a response to the latest summons. Investigators are examining documents related to recruitment processes as part of their effort to establish the flow of decisions and possible irregularities.
The probe has also widened to include other political figures, with Rathin Ghosh, a candidate from Madhyamgram, also being summoned in the same case. However, he did not appear before the agency earlier despite being called. These developments come amid heightened political activity in the state ahead of the Assembly elections.
Earlier, in 2023, the ED had conducted multiple search operations linked to the same case, including raids at properties associated with Sujit Bose and his family members. Reacting to the summons, Bose had alleged that the action was politically motivated, claiming that his name did not appear in the documents related to the case and accusing central agencies of targeting him deliberately. The investigation continues as authorities scrutinise evidence and statements connected to the recruitment process.
