Court sends Councilor Mahesh Sharma to 6-day police custody in extortion case
On Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s instructions, West Bengal Fire and Emergency Services Minister Sujit Bose visited Malda on Saturday to assess flood and erosion-affected areas. He inspected Manikchak and Ratua blocks, where several villages are facing severe damage due to rising river levels and erosion. The minister reviewed the situation on ground and held discussions with local administration regarding relief measures.
Before the field visit, Sujit Bose went to Mangalbari Mahananda Bhavan in Old Malda. There, he met MLA Savitri Mitra, Zilla Parishad Chairperson Lipika Barman Ghosh, Englishbazar Municipality Chairman Krishnendu Choudhury, Old Malda Municipality Chairman Kartik Ghosh, Councillor Chaitali Ghosh Sarkar, and other local leaders. The meeting focused on ongoing flood relief efforts and administrative coordination in the affected areas.
Before leaving for the inspection, Sujit Bose said he had come to Malda as instructed by the Chief Minister. He also criticized the BJP, alleging that Bengali-speaking people are facing atrocities and discrimination in other states. He linked his statement with the ongoing political situation but did not elaborate further during the visit.
