Rain washes RCB vs KKR match; Defending champions knocked out of playoff race
Sunny Deol is once again proving his enduring popularity at the box office. His latest release, Jaat, directed by Gopichand Malineni, has officially become the third highest-grossing film of his career after Gadar and Gadar 2. After a week in theatres, the action drama has collected Rs 57.50 crore nett in India.
According to trade reports, Jaat managed to maintain a decent hold on its first Wednesday, collecting around Rs 4 crore nett. The film’s seven-day performance has been steady, especially considering it is a mid-budget project. With just one more day left in its first week, Jaat is expected to cross the Rs 60 crore nett mark soon.
The day-wise breakdown of Jaat's performance shows an encouraging trend. The film earned Rs 9.5 crore on its opening day, followed by Rs 7 crore on Friday, Rs 9.75 crore on Saturday, and a strong Rs 14 crore on Sunday. The collections dipped slightly through the weekdays but remained respectable with Rs 7.25 crore on Monday, Rs 6 crore on Tuesday, and Rs 4 crore on Wednesday.
However, the film's smooth run is about to face a major test. Akshay Kumar’s Kesari Chapter 2 is all set to release tomorrow. The sequel carries significant buzz and could impact Jaat’s performance if it connects well with the audience. On the other hand, if Kesari 2 fails to impress, Sunny Deol’s film might regain momentum and continue its successful box office journey.
Interestingly, riding on the success of Jaat, the makers have already announced Jaat 2. Sunny Deol will reunite with director Gopichand Malineni for the sequel, raising excitement among fans who have loved the actor’s powerful screen presence in this film.
Jaat also stars Randeep Hooda and Viineet Kumar Singh in key roles. It is produced by Mythri Movie Makers, and with the current trend, it seems the film could eventually inch closer to the Rs 100 crore club if it sustains well over the next few weeks.
