Supreme Court attains full strength of 34 as two more judges take oath

Supreme Court attains full strength of 34 as two more judges take oath

The Supreme Court reached its full strength of 34 judges on Monday after Justices Rajesh Bindal and Aravind Kumar were sworn in. Before being elevated as a judge of the apex court, Justice Bindal was the Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court, while Justice Kumar was the Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court.

The Supreme Court reached full status after nine months. Earlier on February 6, five judges were appointed to the Supreme Court. Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud administered oath to five new judges.

Justices Pankaj Mithal, Sanjay Karol, P V Sanjay Kumar, Ahsanuddin Amanullah and Manoj Misra took the oath during the swearing-in ceremony held at the Supreme Court premises. Their names were recommended by the Supreme Court collegium on 13 December 2022 for elevation as judges of the Supreme Court.
