On Monday, Suvendu Adhikari, the Senior BJP MLA and Leader of the Opposition, joined the government employees who have been protesting for 39 days at Shaheed Minar Maidan. The employees are demanding the payment of dearness allowance, which Adhikari stated is their constitutional right.
Adhikari assured the protestors that the entire BJP Legislature supports their movement and that dearness allowance is a right of government employees according to the central scale. He also criticized the state government for being bankrupt.
The Leader of the opposition reminded the protestors that they have won the case in the Single Bench and Division Bench of the High Court, and emphasized that they will receive the dearness allowance either today or tomorrow. Adhikari pledged unconditional support for the protestors and declared that the BJP and its associated organizations of employees and teachers will continue supporting the movement from outside politics.
The government employees' agitation has been ongoing for 39 days, and they have announced an administrative strike on March 10. All government offices will cease operations on that day.
