Massive fire engulfs chemical factory in Howrah, 15 tenders rushed to spot
Opposition Leader Suvendu Adhikari led a procession in Tamluk on Holi, carrying a non-Muslim flag and the BJP flag, in protest against unrest reported in various parts of the state. The rally, approved by the High Court, saw party workers and supporters marching through the city, chanting slogans in praise of various saints. Security was heightened, with a strong administrative presence monitoring the situation throughout the event.
The rally comes amid political unrest, as BJP MLAs protested in the state assembly over alleged attacks on Suvendu Adhikari during an event in Baruipur. Legislators accused Speaker Biman Banerjee and the local MLA of involvement in the incident. Protesters inside the Assembly raised black flags, tore papers, and demanded a response from the state government. The Speaker later suspended Suvendu Adhikari on charges of tearing official documents. BJP MLA Shankar Ghosh alleged that 50 BJP MLAs, including Adhikari, were put in a life-threatening situation despite having police permission for their event.
Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress leaders continued Assembly discussions, dismissing BJP’s protests. Chandrima Bhattacharya remarked, “They are fools. They don’t know what they are doing.” Speaker Biman Banerjee stated, “They have become too impatient for the chair. In a democracy, you don’t get such a chair like this.” BJP legislators continued their protest for 32 minutes, leading to further disruption. Outside the Assembly, BJP leaders intensified demonstrations, burning a dummy effigy of the Speaker.
