West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Wednesday visited Lok Bhavan for the first time after assuming office and held a meeting with Governor R. N. Ravi. The Governor welcomed him with a bouquet before the two leaders exchanged greetings and held a private discussion. Suvendu Adhikari’s convoy arrived at Lok Bhavan shortly before noon, following which the closed-door meeting took place.
According to sources, several administrative matters may have been discussed during the meeting. The state government is scheduled to present its first full-fledged budget next month, a process that traditionally begins with the Governor’s address. Discussions may also have included the proposed cabinet expansion and the swearing-in ceremony of new ministers at Lok Bhavan.
Earlier, on May 8, Suvendu Adhikari had visited Lok Bhavan after being officially declared the Chief Ministerial choice of the Bharatiya Janata Party. On that occasion, he had formally submitted his claim to form the government along with several newly elected MLAs. The BJP had secured 208 out of 294 Assembly seats in the West Bengal Assembly elections held earlier this month.
Following the election victory, Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited West Bengal on May 8 and held meetings with BJP leaders. During those discussions, Suvendu Adhikari was unanimously chosen as the next Chief Minister. Since the formation of the new government, several welfare-related projects and administrative decisions have already been announced by the state administration.
