Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari has launched a sharp attack on the state government, raising serious concerns about the autonomy of the Raj Bhavan. Speaking to reporters, Adhikari alleged that the Governor’s office has been brought completely under the influence of the ruling government.
Adhikari pointed out that the Governor has repeatedly asked the state administration to submit important documents and reports on various issues, but the requests have been met with consistent indifference. According to him, the government's blatant disregard for the Governor’s authority undermines the constitutional framework.
“The Raj Bhavan is supposed to function independently, but today it is operating like an extended office of the state government,” Adhikari claimed. He further accused the ruling party of systematically eroding the dignity of the constitutional post for political gains.
The opposition leader stressed that the Governor’s role is crucial in maintaining checks and balances between the state legislature and executive. He warned that continued negligence could set a dangerous precedent, weakening democratic institutions in West Bengal.
Suvendu Adhikari also called upon the public to recognize how the government’s attitude towards the Governor reflects a larger trend of disregarding constitutional responsibilities. He hinted at raising this issue further at the national level if the situation does not improve.
The statement has reignited the debate around the strained relationship between the Governor’s office and the state government, a topic that has seen frequent flashpoints in recent years.
