BJP Leader of the Opposition in West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, visited Mothabari in Malda district on Friday after obtaining permission from the Calcutta High Court. The visit followed a violent clash between two groups on March 28, which led to vandalism of several shops and houses in the area. Adhikari’s visit aimed to meet the affected families, listen to their grievances, and provide financial assistance.
According to Adhikari, the violence caused damages exceeding ₹20 lakh. During his visit, he handed over ₹10 lakh in financial aid to the affected families. He also stated that a case has been filed in the High Court seeking full compensation for all victims. Women from the area welcomed him, and he interacted with several residents to understand the extent of losses and damage.
Speaking at the site, Adhikari said, “Today I have provided ₹10 lakh as assistance. The total damage is over ₹20 lakh. A case has been filed in the High Court so that everyone receives compensation.” No official response from the local administration was mentioned.
