A controversy has emerged over a question in Vidyasagar University’s Political Science exam paper that allegedly referred to Indian freedom fighters as "terrorists." The issue has drawn sharp reactions from political leaders, including West Bengal’s Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari. He stated, “Those who laid the foundation of India’s freedom and stood up to British brutality are now being branded terrorists—this is not just historical distortion but also hurts patriotic sentiments.” The reference appeared in the university’s official question paper, though no clarification has been issued by the institution so far.
Adhikari demanded that individuals responsible for the inclusion of the remark be identified and face strict action. He further said, “This inhumane and insulting statement must not be treated as an academic error.” He called on the Chief Minister to issue a public apology, stating that the comment was an insult to India’s martyrs. The university administration has not released any official response or explanation about how the wording came to appear in the examination material.
