Suvendu faces 'go-back' slogans in Bhabanipur, complains of attack on BJP workers

Tension gripped Bhabanipur on Thursday as Suvendu Adhikari was met with “go back” slogans during his election campaign in the constituency. The incident quickly escalated into a political flashpoint, highlighting the intensity of the ongoing electoral battle in one of the state’s most high-profile seats.

The situation turned volatile as supporters of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) engaged in slogan shouting and counter sloganeering. The confrontation created a charged atmosphere in the area, with both sides attempting to assert dominance during the campaign.

The incident occurred in the Chakraberia area when Adhikari’s rally passed near a Trinamool Congress office, triggering protests from local TMC supporters. In response, BJP workers raised counter slogans, leading to a brief clash between the two groups. The situation was eventually brought under control, preventing further escalation.

Following the incident, Adhikari went to the local police station and alleged that BJP workers were attacked during the campaign. He demanded action over the alleged assault, intensifying the political confrontation between the rival parties in the constituency.

Bhabanipur has emerged as a key battleground in the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026, with a direct contest between Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Suvendu Adhikari. While Adhikari has expressed confidence in defeating the Chief Minister, Banerjee has maintained that Bhabanipur remains a stronghold of her party, signalling a high-stakes and closely watched electoral contest.
