West Bengal's Home and Hill Affairs Department issued a directive on Monday to immediately terminate the tenures of all nominated members across various state-run bodies. The order, issued from Nabanna, targets nominated Chairpersons, Directors, and Members of different Boards, non-statutory bodies, and Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs).
The notification also strikes a heavy blow to retired officials who were serving on extensions. According to the order, the services of all officers and officials currently on re-employment or service extension beyond the normal retirement age of 60 years are to be terminated immediately. This includes several high-ranking retired police officers and bureaucrats who were holding influential advisory or administrative positions across different departments.
This directive follows the Chief Minister’s earlier announcements regarding professionalizing the state administration. By clearing out nominated political appointees and extension-based officers, the Suvendu Adhikari-led government aims to create vacancies for fresh appointments and integrate its own policy-making team.
