Angry mob vandalises TMC leader's house, sets fire over corruption allegations
West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Friday ordered a CID investigation into the killing of BJP worker Prashanta Dey in Bagnan, Howrah, and announced financial assistance of ₹9 lakh for his family. Addressing a press conference at Nabanna, the Chief Minister stated that the state government would provide ₹4 lakh in compensation, while an additional ₹5 lakh would be released from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund. He also announced that the government would bear the medical expenses of three injured BJP workers and would arrange employment for Prashanta Dey's wife, Soma Dey, if she expressed interest.
Prashanta Dey was killed late on Wednesday night in the Santoshpur area of Bagnan. Police have arrested five individuals in connection with the case. According to allegations made by BJP leaders, Dey and several others had gone to attend a local function when they were attacked by alleged Trinamool supporters. It is alleged that the group was assaulted with sticks and iron rods, resulting in Dey's death at the scene. Three other BJP workers sustained serious injuries and were initially taken to Bagnan Rural Hospital before being shifted to a nursing home in Kolkata for further treatment.
During the press conference, the Chief Minister stated that the administration was taking strict action in matters related to law and order and appealed to the public not to take the law into their own hands. He said the CID would conduct a detailed investigation into the killing and determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. Police continue to investigate the case while security and monitoring have been strengthened in the area following the violence.
