Angry mob vandalises TMC leader's house, sets fire over corruption allegations
Campaigning for BJP candidate Chandrashekhar Mandal, Suvendu Adhikari expressed absolute confidence in a saffron wave sweeping West Bengal. He predicted that the BJP would secure at least 177 seats in the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections, marking a definitive end to the Trinamool Congress regime. Adhikari emphasised that the party's trajectory in the state has been one of exponential growth, moving from a mere 3 seats in 2016 to 77 in 2021, and now aiming for a clear majority.
The BJP heavyweight did not stop at seat predictions; he also threw a direct gauntlet at Mamata Banerjee. Reminding the crowd of his victory over her in Nandigram during the previous elections, Adhikari declared that history would repeat itself, albeit in a different constituency. He vowed to defeat the Trinamool supremo in Bhabanipur, her traditional stronghold in South Kolkata. "I told you last time I’d defeat you in Nandigram, and I did. This time, I am telling you, I will defeat you in Bhabanipur," he asserted amidst cheers from the supporters.
Adhikari urged the electorate to record his predictions, inviting everyone to verify the results on the afternoon of May 4, the scheduled day for the counting of votes. He suggested that 177 is merely the baseline and the final tally could go even higher, though he refrained from providing a specific upper limit.
